Fiery Crash Kills Local Man

At about 9:30 pm on Sunday, July 23rd, a local adult male of undetermined age was killed when he crashed his vehicle into a concrete guardrail at a high rate of speed and it burst into flames. According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene, the man was driving northbound on Hempstead near Winfield in northeast Harris County at just about dark, when he rammed his vehicle into a concrete barrier. The impact was so severe the engine compartment was crushed into the passenger compartment and the front end immediately burst into roaring flames, killing the driver either upon impact or by being burned to death. Hempstead was closed for several hours to allow first responders to put out the fire and remove the deceased’s remains and then for deputies to investigate the scene and direct the clearing of wreckage. Investigation of the tragedy’s cause continues, including the obtaining of tissue samples during a pending autopsy. No other vehicles or people were reported to have been involved.
