Drunk Driver Kills 1, Injures 3
At about 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2nd, a man driving a Mercedes sedan at a very high rate of speed on Highway 290 slammed into an SUV and four other vehicles near the intersection with FM 1960 in northwest Houston, injuring four occupants of the struck vehicles. The Mercedes’ driver tried to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended. That driver was unhurt in the crash, but the four injured victims were taken by ambulance to an area hospital and one of them has subsequently died. The driver who caused the collision was determined by Harris County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene to be intoxicated and he was arrested and charged with criminal intoxication assault and other related charges. One of those charges has now been upgraded to intoxication manslaughter and the defendant is now being held in lieu of posting a $5,000 bond.
