‘Black Friday’ Crash Kills 1

The term, “Black Friday” in modern America has come to refer to the supposedly busiest shopping day of the year as Christmas shoppers line up nationwide the morning after Thanksgiving Thursday to score on good shopping deals and to secure the most popular items before shelves run bare. However, for one Houstonian, “Black Friday,” November 24th turned out to have a vastly more sinister meaning – it was the day he or she died. This tragedy occurred at about 10:30 am in the westbound lanes of East I-10 near John Ralston, not far from Loop 610 West. Two vehicles were involved in a fiery crash which quickly backed up traffic on both sides of I-10, as well as on nearby Beltway 8, where rubber-neckers slowed traffic to a crawl. Details of the collision were sketchy as first responders took some time to arrive on the scene, put out the fire, remove the victim’s remains, clear the wreckage and get traffic flow started again, all of which had HPD officers working for hours.
